Mock tests are for when you want to test yourself under timed exam conditions. If you are still building your knowledge chapter by chapter, topic practice is the better starting point. Come back here when you are ready to simulate the real thing.

How the real test works

The Life in the UK test has 24 multiple-choice questions. You have 45 minutes. To pass, you need at least 18 correct — that is 75%. The test costs £50 each time, and it is the same test whether you are applying for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) or British citizenship.

Most people who fail do so because they underestimated specific chapters — particularly the history and government sections. Regular mock testing helps you find those gaps before your real appointment.

How BritReady mock tests work

Each mock test on BritReady:

  • Contains 24 questions drawn from across all chapters of the official handbook
  • Runs with a 45-minute countdown, matching the real exam
  • Shows your score and correct answers the moment you finish
  • Includes a short explanation for every question you got wrong
  • Is randomly generated each time — no two tests are the same

When you finish, you can see exactly which questions you missed and why. If you are consistently scoring 18 or above across several different tests, you are ready for your real appointment.

No account is needed to start. Create a free account to save your scores and track your progress over time.

When to use mock tests

Mock tests are most useful after you have done some studying. Taking them before covering the material tends to produce low scores that are hard to learn from.

  1. Read through the BritReady study guide chapter by chapter
  2. Practise by topic using practice questions to find any weak areas
  3. Take full mock tests once you have covered all chapters
  4. Review what you got wrong after each test
  5. Repeat until you are consistently hitting 18 or above
